Iwash Educational project

Education project for increasing hand-washing practices in rural African context.

aim of the project

The project aims to make hand-washing practices more accessible in rural African context in order to prevent the spreading of diseases such as COVID-19.

*This project is in collaboration with African Water Corridor and TUDelft. Our partners: Red Cross, Sanitation Learning Hub, Maji and Yep program.

Design solution

We developed a three-step approach based on storytelling. Users who are mostly illiterate understand the importance of hand-washing, they learn how to wash and when to wash hands and they practice building hand-washing stations to promote hand hygiene around their community.

The process

We developed the educational material to be easily tested in form of physical workshops. The material and the feedback from our partners are now developed in an educational app. The aim of the app is two fold, involving users in hand washing practices and trigger the development of an autonomous learning community active in the African context.

*Testing the educational material and the workshop design by Jasper Schakel and wash professionals.
